The Mississippi Board of Pharmacy has backed off a proposal to control regulation of pharmacy benefit managers after the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association threatened to sue if the board went through with the plan. Pharmacy benefit managers are the companies that employers, unions and state agencies hire to negotiate discounts from drugstores. State departments of insurance traditionally regulate such companies, but Mississippi explored giving that power to its board of pharmacy instead.
